The Communications Regulatory Authority has led an open and public telecoms liberalization effort in Qatar, earlier as part of the Ministry of Information & Communications Technology and now as an independent regulatory body. A competitive process resulted in the selection of Vodafone as the second mobile and fixed line operator in the country. Qtel (now rebranded Ooredoo) was the incumbent provider. The sector is thriving in Qatar to the benefit of consumers and businesses in terms of enhanced services, value, and innovations in communications services.
