Telecommunication numbers are finite resources and the CRA regulates its use as part of its mandate. The Numbering Regulations provides a mechanism of numbers allocation, withdrawal and related procedures in accordance with the National Numbering Plan (NNP). Service providers are entitled to request numbering resources for the provision of different telecommunication services.
The CRA has formulated Numbering Regulations for effective management and allocation. The Regulations includes a monitoring and audit process to achieve this objective. Using Numbering Management System (NMS) service providers will be able to submit periodic reports to reflect the use of numbers allocated by the CRA.
The primary objectives of this Regulation are to provide a long-term framework within which the NNP may continue to be developed for the benefit of all customers, taking into account international rules. It ensures transparent and nondiscriminatory access to numbers and changes to customers numbers are minimized.
