The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) participates in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2023, which is conducted from 13-17 March 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland, and remotely. The theme of the WSIS Forum 2023 is “WSIS Action Lines for building back better and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
The WSIS Forum represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ multistakeholder community. The Forum includes interactive high-level dialogues, a ministerial round table, meetings, workshops, and training sessions about various topics like bridging digital divides, building confidence and security in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), digital economy and trade, digital governance and capacity building, and digital inclusion among others, as this year the forum discusses the role of ICTs as a means of implementing the SDGs. Furthermore, the Forum includes the WSIS Prize ceremony, and an exhibition addressing issues that are critical to WSIS implementation and follow-up in a multistakeholder setting.
The Forum is attended by participants from around the world, representing multi-stakeholders including governments, civil society, the private sector, academia, the technical community, and intergovernmental organizations. It is co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the engagement of other United Nations Agencies.
During the Forum, CRA will lead a workshop on March 17, 2023, where it will present its plans for hosting the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26) in the State of Qatar and highlight Qatar’s potential in the ICT field. Furthermore, through its booth at the exhibition, CRA showcased Qatar’s achievements in the global ICT landscape. Also raised awareness about the PP-26 and the important role it will play in shaping the future of the global ICT sector.
CRA participates in the WSIS Forum, based on its keenness to participate in various international forums related to the ICT field to exchange information and experiences and foster partnerships with stakeholders from around the world, which support CRA’s efforts related to effectively regulating the ICT sector towards its development.
