The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) launched today a public consultation on the draft of a regulation and a policy (regulatory framework) related to quality of retail communication services provided to the public. The aim of the consultation is to receive views and comments on the content of the regulatory framework from multi-stakeholders including consumers and telecom service providers no later than February 6, 2020.
The new regulatory framework aims to develop the current key performance indicators (KPI) for measuring the quality of telecom services. The regulatory framework includes the measurement methodologies and mentions the tools that are used in monitoring the KPIs, especially for fixed telecommunications networks.
The CRA ensured that the regulatory framework and the KPIs are in line with international standards and best practices and that both are forward-looking and taking into consideration the new technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Fifth Generation (5G) technology and other innovations and developments in the communications sector infrastructure from a quality of experience perspective.
“The regulatory framework and CRA’s annual quality of service (QoS) audit of mobile networks will contribute to achieving our goal; protecting the rights of telecom consumers and ensuring that they have access to advanced, innovative and reliable services. The regulatory framework and the annual audit will enable consumers to access accurate information about the quality of the services provided, which will make it easier for them to choose the service provider that meets their needs. In general, the CRA communicates continuously with the service providers to discuss ways of improving the provided services,” said Amel Salem Al-Hanawi, Consumer Affairs Manager, CRA.
