The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has released a summary report of the results of the quality of service of mobile networks audit in Qatar for 2023.
The report contains a comprehensive evaluation of the quality and performance of voice calls, SMS messaging, and data services, including the latest fifth-generation (5G) technology offered by telecom Service Providers Ooredoo Qatar Q.P.S.C. and Vodafone Qatar P.Q.S.C. across the State of Qatar. The audit evaluated several Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Among these are voice calls and SMS messages success rates, data speeds, and webpage download success rates. These indicators offer consumers valuable insights into the overall performance of mobile networks in the country.
The audit was conducted between September and December 2023. The report covers the quality of service from both Service Providers on roads, popular off-road routes and 100 indoor locations in key areas, often visited during camping and fishing seasons. Samples were collected through tests on roads in key locations and in buildings. Road tests covered all main and secondary roads, while other samples were focused on highly populated areas.
The report indicates that the Services Providers have maintained high standard of success full call completion and SMS messages delivery. In terms of data service quality, both Services Providers showed high throughput in download and upload speeds for local and international servers. These high standards demonstrate the strength of Qatar's mobile networks, particularly in urban and high-density population areas.
The audit is part of CRA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that Qatar’s mobile services meet the highest standards. CRA ensures that the quality of mobile services provided is in line with the applicable regulatory framework and the terms and conditions of the licenses granted by CRA to the Service Providers. This kind of annual audit helps in assessing the improvements of the quality of mobile service levels offered by the Service Providers in Qatar. CRA will continue to monitor the performance of mobile networks, ensuring the ongoing development of telecommunications infrastructure. This is in support of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third Qatar National Development Strategy 2024 - 2030, which prioritizes improving residents' quality of life and delivering services that meet global standards.
